General Practitioner (GP)

A general practitioner or GP is a qualified doctor who works in primary care (general practice) and is often referred to as a family doctor.

GPs in your practice assess, diagnose and treat illness. Some GPs have specialist interests such as minor surgery or dermatology.   GPs can refer patients for further care, such as referral for X-ray or to see a specialist consultant in a hospital.

GPs ensure that patients receive the most appropriate and highest level of care at all times

Our GPs also supervise, train and mentor the wider clinical team and work particularly closely with our advanced practitioners such as Clinical Pharmacists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

GP Registrar

Patford House Partnership is a training practice and some of our GPs are trainers.  A GP registrar or GP reg (also referred to as a GP trainee) is a qualified doctor who’s now training to become a GP.

GP registrars work under the supervision of a GP trainer and will spend three years undertaking the GP training programme.

Medical Students and PA Students

Patford House Partnership also provides placements for medical students on elective rotation.  They may be in the 3rd or 4th year of their medical training.  Medical students assist the assigned physician during routine clinics and visits to help to prepare for the initial evaluation of the patient  and develop a management plan.

We also provide placements for Physician Assistant students.  Physician Associates are healthcare professionals with a generalist medical education, who work alongside doctors, physicians, GPs and surgeons providing medical care as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.  Similar to Medical Students, the PA student placements are provided by PHP as part of the elective rotation for students taking a Physician Associate degree.  Students may also start a consultation and agree a management plan under close supervision of a member of our registered professional team.
